- Great men serve others. It makes no difference if they do so through literature, politics, business, art, entertainment, sport or from the sanctity of a religious platform. History’s pages are dedicated to selfless leaders who are remembered more for the social progress they inspired rather than the personal fortunes they amassed. Their accomplishments lifted the multitudes to new heights and set the stage for a more prosperous world. The legacies of these men and women give us all hope.
- Celebrities on the other hand, serve themselves. The pages of tabloids are stained with their public personas and scandals. Their works are forgotten but their flaws act as daily reminders of humanity’s imperfection. Far from inspiring us toward greatness, they are mere distractions; teaspoons of sugar that help us swallow our private miseries. Instead of reflecting the perfection in all of us, their superficial beauty leads us into false feelings of inadequacy.
- The great smile from their hearts. Celebrities smile for the camera. The great seek the truth and speak from their souls. Celebrities seek the microphone and ramble from their egos. The great lead and serve the public interest. Celebrities follow trends and serve their private interests.
- Celebrities fade away as the greats watch their legacy grow. One is a slave to success, the other a ruler of undisciplined attention. A country may look to its king, but a wise king seeks the counsel of their servant.
